I am a self-taught artist, living and working in both San Francisco and rural
Sonoma County. My paintings are inspired by folk art and mythological stories
from around the world and inform the bold colors of my representational style.
I paint to bring the past into
the present and to restore a reverence for things lost or displaced. As Caroline
Casey says, “to restore to living
memory something that has been forgotten.”
Some of my paintings are portraits of women and animals from my imagination.
Other paintings take on more narrative, with symbols from my dreams and unconscious
that surface on the canvas. I use metaphor to suggest that anything might happen;
that reality is fluid and layered.

In my mixed-media work, I
attempt to let the elements tell a story, primarily using whatever materials
are on hand; recycling fragments of a past into a meditative present. The ideas
of prayer and ritual are akin to making art for me. Art is a language I can use
to attempt to articulate the less rational and more mysterious realms of being
human.
I received an Undergraduate Degree, with honors, in Interdisciplinary Studies
at John F. Kennedy University and have completed graduate courses at San Francisco
State University in the Women's Studies Department. I am a former board member
with WidowSpeak, a non-profit literary project and humanitarian effort, benefiting
widows worldwide.

to go to the heart of a secret” - Balthus, 1908-2001 |
